This feature will be available in 2010!
Every on-line tournament pool I've seen has significant accessibility problems. For example:
- Mouse dependence. Users select teams by clicking and dragging team names from one position on the bracket to another. If you can't see it or can't use a mouse, you can't play!
- Dynamic content. Even tournament pool applications that don't require a mouse tend to modify the bracket based on user behavior. You click on a team, that team is added to a new line on the bracket. However, this information is not communicated to screen reader or screen magnification users.
- No structure. If tournament pool applications are presented as brackets with no structure to explain the relationships between games and rounds, it is very challenging if not impossible for non-visual users to get their bearings in this interface.
For all of these reasons, several users of this website from past years have requested an interactive tournament pool. It's in progress, but I wasn't able to get it done in time for the 2009 tournament. Of course this will be for bragging rights only (not a money pool!), but it promises to be a fun time nonetheless. Please check back again when March Madness rolls around next year!
