This was one of my favorite tunes from February Album Writing Month (fawm.org) in 2012.
There aren’t many people in the United States for whom Seattle is South, but I’m one! I thought of the opening line for this tune while driving south to Seattle from my home in Bellingham. I got stuck in I-5 traffic, and got stuck on that one line, where I remained stuck for an entire year. The idea originated in February 2011, then finally in February 2012, for some reason that’s beyond my understanding, I was suddenly overflowing with both country and Seattle clichés to finish out the song. Songwriting, and the human mind, can be so mysterious.
