Sittin Down With Spain

This song was written and recorded in October 2008 when the presidential campaign season was in full swing. Although one couldn’t avoid politics during that time, my initial motivation for recording this tune was musical rather than political. A Spanish-influenced chord progression had been looping in my head for quite some time, and I had been noodling around with it on Aunt Betsy’s flamenco guitar without clear direction. Then, Republican presidential candidate John McCain refused to meet with Prime Minister Zapatero of Spain for ideological reasons. This fueled debate in both the presidential and vice presidential debates, and it, shall we say, struck a chord.
